Vance - James D.

Source: Zach, Karen B.  Montgomery Medicine Men ... Crawfordsville, Indiana: MCHS, 2002.
Nothing other than the mention in the 1846 Turner's Indiana Annual Register could be found about James D. Vance.

Note from kbz:
Since the publication of the above book, I have found a few possibilities, but not 100% positive this is the correct person - just can't imagine though that in the 1850s there was more than one James D. Vance so imagine it is him.  Also, it really doesn't bother me that the James D. below is not a physician as many of the doctors of the times had other jobs, especially ministers and farmers.

Married Eleanor Crabb 12 July 1848 in Montgomery County

James D. Vance 39 Farmer born VA
Eleanor 26 Ohio
Mazey (indexed as such on ancestry.com but they are terrible at indexing) - possibly Margery B. 1 Ind
same name as above - age 72 --- $1200 born VA

Dear Sir,
I received a letter by last mail from my old friend Capt. Tho. Joyes requesting me to give you the names of that branch of the Heirs of Sam'l Vance with which I am connectd. They are the Children of Robert Vance Dec'd (who died in 1834) the Brother of Sam'l Vance--Their names in the order of their birth are as follows--Nancy B. Vance, Mary Elizabeth Vance, Isaac B. Vance, James D. Vance, Robert J. Vance and Mazy A. Hathaway. They are all of age, the youngest being now about 26 or 27 years old.
Mary Elizabeth the 2nd daughter and myself were married in April 1828. James D. Vance Robert J Vance & myself reside in this place. Mazy A. the youngest child was married in 1840 in this place to Mr. Abram Hathaway. They now reside in Brunswick Missouri. Nancy B. resides with them. Isaac B. Vance resides in New Orleans.
I had the pleasure of your company last fall in the stage from Keytesville to Glasgow [two Missouri towns in Chanton County, about 18 miles apart]. You were returning from the Chanton Court.
Respectfully your Att. Serv't
Sam'l D. Vance
(the following in another's handwriting)
Nancy B. Vance In Brunswick
Mary Elizabeth Vance married Sam'l D. Vance
Isaac B. Vance In N. Ors.
James D. Vance Crawfordsville, Ind
Robert J. Vance Crawfordsville, Ind
Mazzy A Vance married Abram Hathaway

On the above tree, James D. Vance is listed as born 1809 - died 1845 but the note above from Samuel D. Vance is toward the last of December so doubt this is correct.
