Crawfordsville June 1 - Derald Vancleave, Montgomery County man overseas since January 1945 who was wounded on V-E Day in Germany looked up at the nurse who was helping dress his wounds in the evacuation hospital behind the lines of the 7th United States Army, only to find that she was Lt. Gale Young, from his home town, Ladoga. She was the first person from Montgomery County that he had seen since landing overseas five months ago.

He was wounded when he and his buddy were examining some pistols taken from Germans. The pistol in the hands of his buddy was accidentally discharged. The bullet went through Pfc Vancleave's right leg.  In the letter just received from Pfc. Vancleave by his father, living at Ladoga, the son said he was recovering satisfactorily.  Lt. Young, the nurse went overseas early in 1944 with the 27th evacuation hospital unit with which Lt. Col. HC Wallace, Crawfordsville sugeon and three Culver Hospital nurses were enlisted personnel.
