Last rites for Mrs. Melissa Welch, 80, who died Saturday were conducted Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lynch, east of Crawfordsville. The services were in charge of the Rev. WH Newlin. Burial was made at Wesley cemetery. Although Mrs. Welch had been in failing health for a number of years the immediate cause of her death was a cerebral hemorrhage, which she suffered in March. She died at the daughter's home. The deceased was born at Wesley, Ind March 25, 1854, the daughter of George W. and Cynthia Ann Bratton. She was one of the last of the grandchildren of William Bratton, a member of the Louis and Clark expedition. Early in life Mrs. Welch united with the Christian Union Church, southeast of Waynetown. She was married Oct 16, 1881 to Benjamin F. Welch. Mr. Welch died Sept 19, 1919. A daughter, Yuma Alice, and a brother, George Bratton also preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Lynch of near this city; a son, Floyd D. Welch of St. Louis, Mo; four grandchildren, Claude and Harold Welch of St. Louis and Emory and Leonard Lynch of Crawfordsville and a brother, Warren Bratton of Indianapolis. - typed by kbz
