Santy F. Whittington was born about 1822 in Kentucky and lived in the Waveland area, later moving to Crawfordsville where he was an early dentist.

NOTE:  Since my above booklet was published, I have since discovered that this is NOT Santy at all but SOUTHY (a family name from generations before this Southy) Thomas WHittington born 21 ugust 1827 in SHelby County, Kentucky son of Littleton and Frances Glenn Whittington.  See more information below

S.T. Whittington, dentist, Waveland, was born in Shelby Co KY in 1827 and is the son of Littleton and Frances Whittington, who were married in Wood ford Co KY and moved to Shelby Co. in an early day, where they lived till their death. The subject of this sketch was raised on a farm, and receiv ed a common school education.  In 1849 he came to Waveland, Montgome ry Co , IN where he worked at the carpenter's trade, which he learned in K y.  After following this occupation for somet ime, he studied dentistry un der Dr. Vanderbilt, of Crawfordsville, this county, since which time he has followed dentistry at Waveland. He is a charter member of the Masonic fraternity which meets at Waveland. During the many years spent in this county he has gained the respect and confidence of the people.  In 1857 he marr. Friday June 14 - Cloudy. 67.  $2.20. Paid Guy Rice a dollar and Mag Moore 35. There was more sunshine than usual today. Fresh meat 20. Two pine apples 35 a loaf of bread 5.  Eva and her niece, Mrs. Pearly M. Conover returned this evening at 6.  Yesterday I cut hair for Tom Whittington of Seattle, Washington. He used to live here and worked at Dentistry. He is 80 years old. This will be apt to be his last visit. He is now visiting in Browns Valley.

William Whittington, Sr., received a telegram Tuesday announcing the dea th of his brother, Dr. S. T. Whittington at the home of his daughter in Ox ford, Ohio.  He was one of the early settlers and was the pioneer dentist of Waveland and vicinity more than forty years ago.  Leaving Waveland w ith his children for the west a number of years ago, first settling in Kansas and then in Seattle, Washington, where he lived until he came to live with his daughter in Ohio.  He is the second of the four brothers to pass away.  Tyre G., the oldest brother, was buried last fall, living to t he age of 91; the next brother is William of this city, in his 86th year.  Then came Southey Thomas, aged 84, and then the youngest, Joshua, of C ayuga, age 81, all coming from Kentucky many years ago.  The funeral service will be held in Oxford, Ohio, Thursday at one.  Thanks muches to Sue P for this one :)
