WILHITE, James Q.W. Crawfordsville, was born in Montgomery  County in the city of Crawfordsville, April 12, 1848. His mother  died when he was 7 years old. He had a good common education and  attended Wabash College some time. He began life for himself when  14. He enlisted in Co. K, 154th Ind, Vols. and served till the  close of the war. In 1870, he was appointed deputy sheriff and  discharged the duties of his office so efficiently for 10 years  that in 1880 he was nominated and elected sheriff of the County.  Mr. Wilhite is a Mason, an Odd Fellow, a Knight of Pythias and a  republican. He was married Feb 16, 1871 to Miss Mary F. SIDENER .  They have one child, Ada E, born August 4, 1873. Mr. Wilhite is one of  the best sheriffs in the state. - transcribed by kbz
