JOHNSON, Walter L.

Walter Johnson was born in 1842 and died in 1928. He graduated from Rusk Medical College with honors and began practicing in Crawfordsville. He stayed but a few years, then moved to Santa Cruz, California where he practiced and eventually died. He was one of the founders (and a charter member) of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Former Resident of City, W. L. Johnson, is Dead in Wyoming

Rawlins, Wyo., April 14-DR. W. L. JOHNSON, 86 years of age and one of the real old-timers in this part of the country, was found dead in his bed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. R. Couzens, Monday morning of this week.

Dr. Johnson was born in Crawfordsville on June 21, 1842 and he remained in that city until 1881, when he went west, locating in Denver. Three years later he moved to North Park, Colo., and in the following year he located on a homestead south of Encampment.

In 1889 Dr. Johnson purchased the Rawlins Consolidated Drug Co., in this city. He operated the drug store until 1902 when he purchased another drug store in Salt Lake City and moved to that place to live. The store was sold in 1904 and the doctor moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. In 1922 he returned to Wyoming to make his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. A. R. Couzens. He remained with them from that time until his death.

Dr. Johnson married Miss Fannie Hall of Logansport, Ind. in 1868. Mrs. Johnson died in California in 1921. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Mellie Dodds of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mrs. Couzens and Mrs. George Bible, both residents of Rawlins, and an older brother, Mahlon V. Johnson of Denver. Funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock, the Rev. F. F. Kraft officiating. Burial was made in the Rawlins Cemetery. Dr. Johnson was a brother of Mrs. Susan D. Blair, Mrs. R. F. Beck and Mrs. Judge Britton, all of who lived in Crawfordsville.
