O'REAR, John Henry

John Henry O'Rear was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky Oct. 20, 1822 and graduated from the Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, then came to Indiana about 1852. He began practice with Dr. Rogers below. He married the stepdaughter of Dr. Rogers, Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick. Oreare practiced medicine in Browns Valley until 1867 when he moved near North Salem. in 1872, he moved to Jamestown where he died on Christmas Day, 1891. One source says he was the first physician to locate in Browns Valley once the town was laid out (by Mathias VanCleave 1836). Dr. Orear was the physician in attendance at Dr. George T. Williams birth, author of Pioneer Physicians and Surgeons of Montgomery County, from which much of the information for this page comes.
