Joseph Russell was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, July 23, 1815, and died at Waveland, Indiana, feb. 11, 1893. At the age of 24, he began the study of medicine with Dr. J.T. Russell of Montgomery County, Kentucky and in 1840, he attended Transylvania University at Lexington, Ky. Soon he was travelling throughout Montgomery, Morgan and Trimbol Counties in Kentucky and finally landed in 1845 at Waveland. He was not only an excellent doctor, he was an author, as well, writing a booKnights of Pythiasoems called, "Shades of Death and other Poems."

J.P. RUSSELL, physician, Waveland, was b. in Bourbon Co, Ky July 23, 1815, and remained at home working on his father's farm, until the age of 24, after which he began the study of medicine with Dr. Russell, Montgomery Co, Ky and in 1840 and 41 he attended the Transylvania Univ at Lexington Ky., and soon after entered into an extensive practice in Montgomery, Morgan and Trimbold Co, Ky. In 1845 he came to Mont Co IN and located at Waveland, where he soon entered into a lucrative practice. By his long experience as a physician and surgeon, he is classed among the first physicians of that County. He marr. in his native co, in 1845, Miss Mary e. PENN, by whom he has 9 children: Lenora; Alice; John Q; David C; Joseph W; Elizabeth; Mollie; Emma and Pinie I.

Dr. Joseph P. Russell died suddenly at his home in Waveland, Sunday morning, Feb. 12th, 1893. He had been sick for some months, but neither himself nor his family supposed death so near. He was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky and was about 78 years old. He was noted for his kindness and goodness of heart and for a long time was one of the leading physicians of the County, but of late years he had lived a quiet life, surrounded by an affectionate family and giving but little attention to his profession. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Lexington, Ky. He had been a resident of Waveland for nearly fifty years. The funeral occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church at Waveland.
