C.W. ELZROTH, merchant, Crawfordsville, was b. May 6, 1825 in Randolph Co, IN and is a son of John. His father came to IN in 1818 and settled in Randolph on the land afterward laid out for the co. seat. He became a large property owner. He filled the offices of co. commissioner and sheriff. He d. Jan 2, 1880 at the age of 94. CW came from Wabash Co to Crawfordsville in 1850 and engaged in pork packing and merchandising he has improved the city by numerous buildings. In 1864 he began the real estate business. he has built six houses and bought and sold property quite extensively.. he built a public hall, which he controlled 17 years. He now owns 3 store buildings and 3 residences. he has made his fortune by industry and rigid economy. At the beg. of the war he left his business with his clerks and assisted in getting volunteers to fill the quota of the County and later furnished horses for government use. Mr. E. was marr. Oct 12, 1853 to Eliz. BENEFIEL, daughter of George W. Benefiel of Montgomery Co. She d. July 1854. He was next marr. to Eliza M. SNOOK daughter of Dr. Henry T. Snook, an early settler of Mont Co. They have 4 children. Both are members of the Presbyt. Church and he is a Mason. He is at present dealing in all kinds of secondhand goods at No. 19 N Green St at the store known as the "Old Curiosity Shop."
