Zachariah F. MAHORNEY

Z. F. MAHORNEY, farmer, Ladoga, was b. in Washington Co IN Aug 8, 1818. He is the son of Benett and Mary (FISHER) Mahorney, who were natives of Shelby Co, Ky. Mr. Mahorney's father was a ferry keeper at Westport, Ky., and was accidentally drowned when Mr. M. was about seven years of age, after which Mr. Mahorney and mother removed to Shelby County, Ky. Here he remained and received his education, and in the meantime learned the tailor's trade. In 1836 he came to Montgomery County, Indiana and worked by the day until he earned money enough to buy 80 acres of land in Putnam County. In 1840 he marr. Miss Catharine Harshbarger, a native of Va, and by this union has raised a family of 11 children: Jacob W, Zacharian W, Sophia A, wife of D. MYERS; Byron T, Jacob I, John C., James P, Phoebe L, David D, Mary L, Martha J, Daniel M. Mr. M. is the owner of a fine farm, with good improvements, located near the town of Ladoga. He is a member of the IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] and is respected by all who know him.

Mahorney, AF, son of Bennett and Mary Mahorney, natives of Shelby Co Ky was b. in Washington Co IN Aug 8, 1818. In 1822, he moved to the Ohio River with his father, who was accidentlly drowned in 1823. His mother moved to Oldham Co, Ky where she died 1834. Mr. M. lived with his grandmother in Shelby Co Ky till 1836 when he located in this co. Dec 1, 1840.; Married Miss Catharine, daughter of Jacob & Salome Harshberger, natives of Va, who settled in this township, 1831 and had 8 children; Lydia, now Mrs. Wm. Myers; Samuel; Catharine, now Mr.s Marhorney, B. Dec 31, 1821; Salome, now Mrs MB Anderson; Elizabeth, now Mrs. Samuel P. Frame; Jacob M.; Ann Mrs. Wm. Frame; Mary, Mrs. D. Himes. Mr. & Mrs. Mahorney had 11 children: Jacob W b. Jan 10, 1844; ZQ march 14, 1846; Sophia A Oct 13,1 848, now Mrs. DA Myers of Kansas; Byron T, Feb 8, 1850; John C. Dec 19, 1851; James MP March 3, 1854; Phoebe Lee, May 23, 1856; Samuel D July 7, 1858; Mary L, June 22, 1860; Martha J. April 1, 1862; Daniel Milton Jan 7,1 866 Their present farm was located, and improvement begun in 1841; a view of their beautiful home being in the Atlas. Mrs. Mahorney is a German Baptist; Mr. M. a Univeralist and also a member of Ridgley Lodge No 61, IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows]
