BARBARA WHITE MANNERS Probate
Source: Crawfordsville Review, August 15, 1900
The will of Mrs. Barbara Manners, the widow of Dr. George Manners, who died recently at her home in New Richmond, has just been admitted to probate. In life Mrs. Manners was an active christian worker and her devotion to her church and its good works is shown by the will which bequeaths her entire estate, amounting to about $20, 000 to mission and christian causes. The will directs that two-thirds of the estate be given to the missionary society of the Methodist church, incorporated under the laws of New York, providing, however, that no part of the bequest shall be applied to outstanding debts against the society. The remaining one third she bequeaths the Board of Church Extension, incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania, to be held and used as part of the loan fund. Elijah W. Lawhow is nominated as executor and for the purpose of carrying out the provisions it is directed that the estate, which includes several hundred acres of fine land, be converted into cash. It is specified, however, that the land shall not sell for less than an average of $50 per acre. The will was drawn November 27, 1891. The deceased left no children of near relatives.
