Diary of Hiram A. Pratt, Waveland Barber (Standard Diary #31)

1884 Diary of Hiram A. Pratt - Miscellaneous

Note : These diaries were in the Waveland Public Library for decades but were disposed of by a librarian several decades ago. Luckily, another librarian's daughter (thanks sooo much Pam, (at the death of her mother, Virginia Banta Sharpe) found them in some belongings and gave them back for proper housing. A complete circle. I'm a librarian too and thought since they'd been lost to posterity for so many years that it would be a good thing to transcribe them and give them to the world. They will again be housed by my own daughter, Suzie Zach Baldwin, Waveland-Brown Township Public Librarian in 2007. A copy of the originals and typed transcripts will be sent to the Crawfordsville District Public Library and Indiana Historical Society if they desire after we contact them.

Karen Bazzani Zach (transcriber) was raised in the big 'ol town (500 people) where HA Pratt lived 5 decades before I was born. I remember the building where his little shop was and wish it was still there. What an interesting little place. ALAS! Progress! Note I've tried to type the diary entries as is (mistakes etc.)

---- On cover page -- HA Pratt age 44 on April 20, 1884

1884 Added Information

These are miscellaneous notes in Pratt's diary at the end which I thought ws interesting

WA Hauger Du (or Dr but pretty sure he wasn't a doctor but was Hiram's apprentice working in his barber shop so think it is Du spelled incorrectly)

Also on a Memoranda page - Billy Hauger's time on the gravel road work - June 19 one day & quit (& quit is obviously written in later as it doesn't even look like Hiram's writing and definitely a darker and different pen - funny)
