Who's Who

FRANK - ALICE SHOTTS

Source: Crawfordsville Star newspaper, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana May 27, 1892 p 5

The divorce suit of the Shotts (Alice and Frank) of Madison Township, will be heard next term of court. An effort was made by the pair to square things up without the aid of the court but concessions were not forthcoming on either side, and it was found impossible to make the deal. The case will be of a sensational nature - typed by kbz

Mrs. Alice Shotts, through her attorneys, Johnston & Johnston, has filed papers for a divorce from her once "cherished" Mr. Wesley Shotts. He is a prominent farm living near Linden, and the people up in that row of the woods are very much surprised at the turn affairs have taken at the Shotts' house, for the thing smells loudly of scandal. From the complaint it would seem that Shotts is a jealous turn of mind and has lately been abusing his wife very much. Things culminated in a general row the first oaf the week when Shotts knocked his wife down and sat upon her. Not being satisfied with simply "sitting upon her," he jostled up and down to make her know his supremacy. Finally become tired of his brutality he let her up, and for want of manhood called her vile names before his children that would make this pen blush to write them

Mrs. Shotts asks that the court grand her a divorce and her maiden name ... - sorry can not read rest - do not know if her maiden name was given but I could not find it in the marriages :(
