One of the largest crowds ever to assemble for any funeral in this little village (New Ross) gathered at the Methodist Church here this afternoon to pay a final tribute of respect to the memory of Isaac Golladay, aged veteran of the Civil War who was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon by a Big Four passenger train at Main Street crossing in this place. The services were in charge of the Rev. Cornelius Airhart of Crawfordsville, a long-time friend of the deceased, assisted by Rev. JA Gardner of Mace, pastor of the local Methodist Church. The Rev. Airhart spoke feelingly of his long and tender associations with the deceased and paid a high tribute to his sterling qualities of citizenship. At the funeral cortège marched down the aisle of the church preceding the service, Mrs. Eula Proffitt rendered a beautiful piano solo. The song service was rendered by Advance people. Two sons, Only a Dream and Some Sweet day were sung by Charles McClain; William Lucas; Ed Hamilton and Albert Proffitt with Mrs. Ruie Riner at the piano. Albert Proffitt and Mrs. Riner sang as a duet, Jesus Lover of My Soul with the latter at the piano. Several large floral wreathes were carried by Mrs. Rosa Burris; Mrs Sylvia Pierce; Mrs. Corda Smith and Miss Amanda Golladay. Pallbearers were: WF Bratton; William Wall; Walter Whitecotton; Charles Ewen ZJ Walker and Silas Johnson. Interment was made at IOOF cemetery south of town. The services at the grave were military and were in charge of the Britton Camp Spanish-American War veterans assisted by 3 old soldiers of the Civil War. Quite a number of out of town people attended the funeral. -- kbz

Though at error, The Journal & Review stated recently that Isaac GOLLADAY, Civil War Veteran killed at New Ross last Tuesday when he was struck by a train was the last surviving veteran of the war between the states residing in Walnut Twp. A search of the records however reveals that Frank H. Baker another veteran lives at Linnsburg which is also in Walnut Twp. So far as is known Mr. Baker is the only veteran of the war of ’61 still living in that township. There are now 17 Union Civil War veterans living in the county. Two others who formerly lived here are still alive. Two confederate veterans also live in the county. -- kbz
