Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review 6-2-1916

New Ross -- William B. GOTT, Civil War Veteran and one of the most widely known and loved citizens of this place died at his home here Wednesday evening at 8. People here who came in contact with him often and had the privilege of knowing his kindly nature knew him by the name, "Mother." There are hundreds who will mourn his death sincerely. Mr. Gott had lived nearly all his life in this vicinity. He was born near Ladoga in 1937 and in 1869 was married to Mary Strahan in Lebanon. (Note; 15 Dec 1869 Montgomery Co IN Marriages to Mariah Martin). Five children were born to the union and 3, Harry of New Brunswick, Ind; Charles of New Ross and Mrs. Jessie Walkers of New Ross still live. A sister, Mrs.Mary Stilwell of Crawfordsville also survives. With the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Gott enlisted with the 11th Indiana Cavalry in Co. K and served his country in the great struggle. Funearl services are to be held at 2 Firday from the home - typed by kbz
