Dear Mother: At last I am going to write you a few lines to let you know I have not forgotten how. I am just feeling fine and I am getting heavier all the time. I certainly had some trip. I never enjoying anything so much in my life. There were two German submarines attacked us. We took the prisoners off of one and sunk it and I think we sunk the other one. We did not have much chance to sink because the submarine chasers are always on guard. There were six with our ship. It looks odd to see all the houses made of brick with tile roofs. The French people ride in buggies that would make us a good heavy wagon only they have two wheels instead of four. They even haul logs on two wheeled carts. Nearly all of the boys that went from home are here together. So you see we don't get lonesome. I am seeing more than I ever dreamed of. Give my best regards to every one. Love to all, JOE.
