Verne GARLAND who is in training with other troops at Seaford, Sussex, England writes to Judge Rosebaum Dear Old John: It was awfully nice of you and Frank Burrin to send me the "Camels" and I will sure appreciate them when they come, for mostly this tobacco over here is the limit and I am a confirmed cigarette smoker now, as most of the boys are. I will try and write you each week and keep you posted as to my movements. I am going up to London Monday and I shall surely visit a Masonic Lodge while I am there; at least I will try hard. Our training here is very wonderful. It seems there is not a single point overlooked in making a man as fit as possible. They have had me billed for a hospital for some time, but I think now that I shall be able to get by without it. There are lots of boys left in France "pushing up the daisies," but I expect to return again to the Old USA.
(Note: Verne did indeed return and lived to a ripe old age)
