Waynetown, Aug 17 - Pfc. Robert L. Cord, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Cord, living 4 1/2 miles northwest of Waynetown was killed in action in France August 3, according to a telegram that came to his parents, Wednesday evening, from the Department of War, in Washington, DC. Pfc. Cord had been overseas since last October in England, until he left some time in July for France. He had written a letter July 27 to a brother, Sgt. Claude C. Cord, who is stationed at Camp Atterbury, saying he had then been in France for a brief period. Born at Waynetown, Pfc. Cord had lived in and around Waynetown most of his life time. He was a graduate of the Waynetown HS with the class of 1931. He had been in the service since March, 1942. Mr. and Mrs. Cord have a third son, Major William C. McCord, who is serving as an officer at a prisoner of war camp at Hereford, Tex. Pfc. Cord was employed at the Donnelley plant in Crawfordsville at the time he entered to service. -- typed by kbz
