-- the Rockville Republican has this interesting article about the family of Perry CROCKETT, a former principal at the Waveland school who unfortunately lost his life by the caving in of an excavation at his home after moving to Indianapolis. Mrs. Crockett was Miss Ethel FULLENWIDER, daughter of Irving Fullenwider. She lives in Indianapolis where she is matron in Shortridge HS.
When Dr. Harold Crockett, local dentist and lt. in the Reserve Officers Corps reported for active duty as a dentist in the Medical Corps at Ft. Knox, Ky, this week he became the 4th of the 7 sons of Mrs. Ethel Crockett of Indianapolis to enter service in the various branches of the nations armed force s. A younger brother expects to be in the army air corps soon and the other two brothers probably will be available to their country in case of need. As stated in the article in the Indianapolis Star, Uncle Sam would have little need for a recruiting office or a selective service system if all families were like the Crocketts.
Dr. Crockett, who is 31 is the oldest of 7 brothers. A brother, Irving Crockett, 27 is serving his 6th year in the Marine Corps. He is a Sgt and is stationed at San Diego, California. Paul Crockett, 23, is in the navy and at present the ship on which he is on duty is stationed at NY. After having served 4 years in the regular army, he returned to Indianapolis and joined the Naval Reserves. He was called for active duty in April. David Crockett, 22, joined the Naval Air Corps in march. He is now stationed at Pensacola, Florida.
Next in line is James Crockett, who became 21 in April. He registered in the second selective service registration July 1 but like his brothers he is not waiting to be drafted. He has already taken an examination f or the Army Air Corps and hopes to be notified soon that he has been accepted.
Austin Crockett, 30, is married and has two children. He registered in the first selective service registration but since he has dependents is exempt from immediate call. However, at his age, he is still available in case the country should need him badly.
George Crockett, 17 the youngest of the Crockett brothers was graduated from Shortridge HS in June. He is not quite old enough for a military career but he won't need to wait many months in case he should decide to join.
Dr. Crockett ca me to Rockville to practice Dentistry 3 years ago. He is a grad. of Indiana Univ. School of Dentistry in Indianapolis and served as an assistant the re before locating here. He married a Parke County girl, Miss Harriet Martin and they have one daughter, Linda Frae. Mrs. Crockett and little daughter will join Dr. Crockett as soon as he secures living quarters near Ft. Knox. - typed by kbz
