Who's Who

DEAN MURRAY

SSMB2 US Navy WWII

Dean was an entertainer, and well loved in the town of Waveland where he lived many years and raised his family, as well as in Russellville where he grew-up.

He was born 4 February 1912 near Russellville, in Putnam County, and graduated from RHS. He was the son of Bert Sanford and Irene Genevie Barton Murray. To my knowledge, he had but one sister, Esther "Maxine." Bert was called Pee Wee and died young (1932). He was a game warden and loved the out of doors. Irene died the last day of October 1962.

Russell "Dean" Murray married Ruth Geraldine "Jerry" O'Neil the 31st day of July 1935 and they became the parents of four darling and extremely beautiful (inside and out) girls, Sandy; Marjie; Lana and Mel.

Dean ran a barber shop in Waveland for many years and ya' never knew what he was going to pull. His favorite line was to shake some liquid stuff on to his hands and put it on the young boys' hair telling them it was "Indian Pee." He was tooo funny. Loved the guy.

Dean passed away at Methodist Hospital on October 4, 1971 at 3:15 in the afternoon of a cardiac arrest, his home address at that time being, 117 E.Green Street, Waveland.

Active in the American Legion and VFW, he was given full military rites at his service at Russellville Cemetery 4 October 1971,Right Reverend Henry F. Ward officiating.
