Tec5 George T. RONK

Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review unknown date

Mrs. Lois Reed Ronk, wife and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ronk, parents have received a telegram from the Department of War at Washington, DC informing them that Technician 5th Grade George T. Ronk, formerly of Ladoga, has been missing in action in Belgium since December 1 7.

A graduate of Ladoga HS with the Class of 1940 Technician Ronk entered the army Nov 21, 1942, and was sent overseas October 1, 1944. A soldier in the 293rd Infantry Reigment of the 99th Division of the First US Army. Technician Ronk's parents moved to INdianapolis from Ladoga in 1942. His wife, to whom he was married June 27, 1944 was Miss Lois Reed, a former Ladoga girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Reed.

Technician Ronk was employed at the Travis Hardware Store for 18 months following his HS graduation and then worked at ALlison's in Indianapolis a year before entering the army. He had his basic training at Camp Van Dorn, Miss and at Camp Maxey, Texas. Shipped overseas last fall, he landed in England and then was sent across into France and Belgium. His division also was in Germany before the now famous German break-through was launched. - thanks so much to Elda Herbison who shared this on the Ladoga Facebook page :)
