WAR CANNON DEDICATED AT COURTHOUSE

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal 6 June 1902

The exercises attending the dedication of the war cannon Friday on the courthouse lawn drew a large crowd of people who were very attentive to the whole of the exercises. The affair was opened with prayer by Rev. AW Runyan, followed by a song by the school children’s chorus of 140 voices led by Miss Abernathy. The unveiling exercises then took place, Mrs. CM Travis and Mrs. Blanche Gould presiding. Each made a few appropriate remarks after which the coverings were removed. Another song by the chorus followed after which BR Russell on behalf of McPherson Post GAR made a very fine address in presenting the cannon to the county. The speech of acceptance was made by Judge West and it was pronounced by all who heard it that it was a most able effort. Another song by the chorus ended the exercises.
