Alamo Grange, No 1419, P of H - This is to certify that Jas M. Baker who was a member of the Alamo Grange in good standing, departed this life Jan 27th AD 1875, aged 38 Years 11 Months and 10 days. He died of pneumonia after lying sick one week. He bore his afflictions with quiet patience and christian fortitude. His numerous friends gave him good attention during his illness. The day following his death his remains were conveyed by the hearse, accompanied by the member of the Order of the church called Wolf Creek; where his funeral was preached by Eld. Jas. W. Dowden from Heb. 8: 27: "As it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the Judgment."
The funeral was largely attended with manifestations of deep solemnity. After which the coffin was opened that the friends might see him once more. The coffin was then conveyed by the venerable brothers to the grave where they buried him with the honors of the Grange.
The following preamble and resolutions were adopted by the Grange.
Whereas: Brother Baker has left a wife and five little children as sojourners in this land of sin and death; therefore:
Resolved, that we feel it our duty as Patrons to see after their necessities. And furthermore, that we will use our influence to cheer and comfort them in their troubles during their stay with us. And ...
Whereas: It was the will of the DIvine Master to call Brother Baker from labor to reward. Therefore
Resolved, that while we mourn his absence, we are perfectly composed to the will of the Divine mind - looking forward to the time when there shall be a glorious reunion in the celestial clime where sorring and sighing shall flee away.
