Mrs. Lena BANDEL, widow of the late Fred Bandel, ex mayor of Crawfordsville died very suddenly and unexpectedly this morning about 9 at Culver Union Hospital. Her relatives did not know that the shadow of death was hovering over her and were greatly shocked by her sudden demise. Indeed it was expected that she would be able to leave the hospital and go to her home today. A month ago Mrs. Bandel underwent an operation at the hospital which was necessary to save her life. At that time she had a very close call but rallied nicely from the effects of the operation. Her improvement continued and she was in excellent spirits for several days past. This morning she ate a hearty breakfast and was sitting up ready to leave the hospital when she complained of feeling faint. She grew rapidly worse and soon died, her demise being due to heart disease. Mrs. Stinehauser Bandel was born in Springfield, Ill June 20, 1856 and was at the time of her death 15 days past her 53rd birthday. She married Fred C. Bandel July 24, 1875 at Crawfordsville. Of nine children who came to bless this union 7 survive: Dr. Charles F. and Fred W. of Brooklyn, NY; Mrs. WA Portmess and Mrs. J. Frank Smith of Chicago; Mrs. WT Linn; Harry Bandel and Edward Bandel of this city. Mrs. Bandel was a member of the 1st Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was a most excellent woman and her many friends will regret to learn of her sudden taking off at a time when there was every reason to believe she had entirely recovered from the serious illness. - kbz
