JAMES CLARK BANNON

James C. BANNON one of the oldest resident in Montgomery County died Tuesday monring at 9 at the home of his son Lewis near New RIchmond. He was 92 years old and death was caused by a complication of diseaes of old age. Uncle Jim as he was generally known was a member of the Christian Church. he was a whole souled gentleman and an intelligent conversationalist before he lost his hearing and was esteemed for his sterling qualities of mind and heart. In the home life, he was kind and gentle, letting nothing from doing all in his power for the comfort and happeiness of the family. He was filled large in our midst and has exercised wide and helpful influence that will abide as the years multiply. May his memory be cherished and the fulfillment of his thoguth for those about him go on forever. Fuenral services were held at Center Church, Elmdale on Thursday morning at 1 1 o'clock in charge of Rev. House. Burial was made int he Meharry Cem. Buried beside his second wife, PHoebe Marshall Bannon and next to Grandosn James Bbottt son of his oldest daughter Emogene an dher first husband Goerge Abbott.

New Richmond, Jan. 10 -- James C. Bannon died at the home of his son, Louis Bannon who resides near this place, at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning from the infirmities of age. Mr. Bannon was a life long resident of the county and is survived by his wife, William Bannon of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Hugh (Emogene) Jackson of Wingate, Joseph Bannon of Judyville, Charles Bannon of near Waveland, Baker Bannon of Terre Haute, Mrs. C. F. (Lenna) Holle of Minneapolis, Minn., Louis Bannon of near New Richmond and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Bannon was a member of the Center Christian Church (north of Elmdale) and was highly regarded by a multitude of neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday at Center Church and the ceremonies will be conducted by Rev. A. E. House.

James C., son of Michael and Mary Bannon, was born near Greenville, Ohio, December 6, 1830 and died January 9, 1923, aged 92 years, 1 month and 3 days. He moved with his parents to Indiana in his boyhood days. He was the last of nine children to be called to His heavenly home. (He was the last of eleven children). He was married to Elizabeth C. Fulwider, July 24, 1858, with whom he lived happily until her death Oct. 3, 1875. (The correct date of her death is 10/3/1874). To this union nine children were born. Sallie and Benj. A. preceded him in death. Those surviving him are: William of Peoria, Illinois; Mrs. Hugh (Emogene) Jackson of Wingate; Joseph of Judyville; Charles of near Waveland; Baker of Terre Haute; Mrs. C. F. (Lenna) Holle of Minneapolis, Minn. and Lewis of near New Richmond and also a number of grand children and great grandchildren survive. On Nov. 1, 1881, he was again united in marriage to Phebe Marshall, who still survives him and who has proved herself to be a true and faithful companion. To this union no children were born. Mr. Bannon united with the Methodist church in his early boyhood days but 33 years ago he transferred his membership to the Center Christian Church under Rev. Henry Passage of Mellott. In 1867 he was one of the charter members of the organization of Center Christian Church north of Elmdale. He had been a Christian man many years and has been a patron of good works an example of righteousness and a pillar in the church. "Uncle Jim" as he was familiarly known, had a kindly disposition and all will remember before the ravages of old age stole upon him the great earnestness of that handshake which forced you to believe in his sincerity. "He is gone but not forgotten."
