Mary Melinda Lane, daughter of Abraham and Prudence Lane was born near Wingate, Sept. 1, 1870; departed this life Nov. 21, 1924, age 54 years, 2 months and 20 days. She was united in marriage to Charles F. Bannon on Aug.25, 1894. She was of a family of six children; father, mother, two sisters, and one brother preceded her in death. She had been sick for more than two months and during the past ten weeks she was confined to her bed; although at times her suffering seemed almost unbearable she bore it with patience and fortitude. Whatever fond husband, children, neighbors and friends could do, was done but without avail. She leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband, five children: Ernest near Alamo, Eldo near Ladoga, Evan near Wingate, Mrs. Lena Smith near Waveland and Mrs. Iva Walker near Crawfordsville: one sister Mrs. Flora Springer, near Crawfordsville and one brother, Sherman Lane of Wingate, and four grandchildren. In 1903 Mrs. Bannon united with the Liberty Christian Church; then in 1921 she changed her membership to the Freedom Baptist Church near her home and was ever a consistent Christian. No mother was ever more devoted to her family than was this mother. No wife ever loved with a love that was more pure, truer and more faithful than did Mrs. Bannon. She was never happier than when her children were gathered around her and she could share their pleasures and sorrows with them. It was she and mothers like her that the poet had in mind  .. -- kbz
