Waveland - Mrs. Delia "Etta" Banta, 83, a charter member and 25-year-officer of OES here died at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville at 3:45 p.m. Sunday. She had been seriouly ill the past 5 weeks. She was a member of the Waveland United Methodist Church and charter member and 1st president of WSCS. She taught the Modern Martha class for many years at the church. She was educated at Breaks Consolidated School and attended Valparaiso and Indiana State University. Mrs. Banta was born April 9, 1888, in Montgomery County, the daughter of Bishop A and Mary Nelson Marcrum. She married Theron S. Banta of Crawfordsville May 6, 1914. Surviving are a son, J. Myron Banta of Waveland; a daughter Mrs. Virginia Sharpe of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Ida Lowe of Crawfordsville; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchilren and several nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Banta will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Machled & Servies funeral home with Rev. John VanVactor officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.

Waveland – Mrs. Delia Etta Banta, 83 of Waveland died Sunday in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville where she had been a patient several weeks. A life resident of Montgomery County she had attended Breaks Consolidated Schools, Valparaiso University and Terre Haute State Teachers College.  She was marrie din 1914 in Crawfordsville to Theron S. Banta who died last month. Mrs. Banta and her husband had operated a jewelry store in Waveland. She was a member of the Waveland United Methodist Church where she was charter member and first president of the WSCS and had taught the Modern Martha Class for many years. She was also a charter member of the Waveland Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are a son, J. Myron Banta of Waveland; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Sharp of Crawfordsville and a sister, Mrs. Ida Lowe of Crawfordsville.
