Marshall News = Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Federated Church for Mrs. Rhoda BANTA who died suddenly Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Adams while attending a social meeting of the builder's class of the Sunday School. The deceased was born April 14, 1889, a daughter of Mahlon and Rhoda HADLEY MARSHALL and was a life long resident of Marshall. In 1924 she was married to Ora BANTA and he died in 1929. Mrs. Banta had been an active member of the Marshall Friends Church for many years and for several years had been employed as bookkeeper at the Citizens Telephone Office here. Previously she had been a teacher in the grade schools of Marshall and Greene Twp. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Dorothy PETERSON of Menlo Park, California and several first cousins, including Miss Lora Hadley; Mrs. Naomi Seybold, Mrs. Lee Davis and Allen Hadley of this community. Others reside in Indianapolis; California and Kansas. Rev. Milo Hinckle was in charge of the funeral services with burial at Poplar Grove. kbz

Rhoda H. BANTA, 67, a life long resident of Marshall, passed away suddenly late Thursday afternoon Oct 11 when stricken by a heart attack at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Adams, northwest of Marshall. She was at the Adams home attending a party of the Builders Sunday school class Marshall Federated Church when stricken. Mrs. Banta was born in Marshall April 14, 1889, daughter of Mahlon Marshall. She was reared by an aunt, Ruth Hadley. She was a member of the Federated Church, the Marshall Study Club and Marshall Home Economics Club and for a long number of years had been a faithful correspondent for The Republican. Surviving are six cousins: Allen Hadley; Eunice Davis, Naomi Seybold and Laura Hadley all of Marshall; Flavia Denman of Indianapolis and Lurtes Hadley of California. The body was taken to the Davies Funeral Home where it remained until time of the funeral when it was taken to the Marshall Federated Church for 2:00 services Saturday, Rev. Milo Hinckle officiated and burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery. kbz
