Covington Indiana - Clay I. Barker, 74 of Covington died at 3:15 a.m. Monday Dec 14, 1970 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. He had been a patient there since last March and had been seriously ill a month. Born Aug 7, 1896 in Parke County he was the son of Bayless and Jane Riley Barker. He was married in October 1917 to Miranda Dewlin who died in 1959. Mr. Barker had resided in the Covington and Cates communities most of his life and had been a farmer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 291. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis McCord of Crawfordsville, two brothers, Gerald of Kingman and Vaughn of Cates; a sister, Mrs. Harry Youngblood of Terre Haute; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. EST Wed. at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. PJ Hamilton will officiate. The Egg Funeral Home will be in charge.
