COVINGTON - Dewey S. Babb, 63-yearold retired farmer and former Fulton Township assessor, died at 9:50 a.m. Friday at his home about 12 miles south of here. He had been in failing health two years and seriously ill two months. Mr. Babb was a life-long resident of Fountain Country. He had resided in Fulton Township the past 19 years and served as assessor eight years. He was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 636 and OES No. 313, both of Yeddo. Born Jan. 29, 1900, in Fountain County, he was a son of John H. and Ellen Riley Babb. He was married June 14, 1924 to Lela Clodfelder, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Leon of Covington; three daughters, Miss Nadine Babb and Mrs. Eileen Smock, both of Brownsburg, and Mrs. Lorene Tornquist of Attica; a brother, John D. of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Icy Allen of Cates; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. The body was brought to the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here where friends may pay their respects after 4 p.m. Saturday. Services are set for 2 p.m. (EST) Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery here with Masonic rites at the graveside.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, April 22, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home for Dewey Samuel Babb, age 63, who died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, April 19, at his home on Covington Rt. 1. He had been ill two years. Born Jan. 29, 1900 in Fountain County, he was the son of John H. and Ellen Riley Babb. Mr. Babb was married June 14, 1924 to Lela Clodfelder. He was a member of the Yeddo Lodge 636, F & AM and served as Fulton Township assessor for eight years. Mr. Babb farmed all his life. Survivors include his wife; a son, Leon of Covington; three daughters, Miss Nadine Babb of Brownsburg, Mrs. Eileen Smock of Brownsburg and Mrs. Lorene Tornquist of Attica; a sister, Mrs. Icy Allen of Cates; a brother, John D. Babb of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, where Masonic graveside services were held. Pallbearers were: Ernest Pavey. Ernest Rayphole, Ora Abernathy, Sammy Allen, Harvey West and Amos Crowder. – jlr
