Crawfordsville, Aug 16 – Emerson Etheridge Ballard, 70 years old, prominent lawyer, writer and lecturer of Crawfordsville died here today in Culver Hospital of pneumonia and heart disease.  Mr. Ballard was a practicing attorney here for decades and was known widely for his law writings and lecturers. He was author and co-author of several well-known law books, including Thornton and Ballard’s Annotated Indiana Practice Code, Ballard’s Law on Real Property and Indiana References and Annotations.  Mr. Ballard, a native of Putnam County was graduated from DePauw University in 1885.  The honorary degree of Master of Arts was conferred upon him in 1930 by Wabash College.  During the local option fight in Indiana he spoke in practically every county in the state and for several years was a recognized leader of the dry cause. He also was prominent in Masonic circles and at one time was presiding officer for four Masonic bodies in the city. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Knowlton Kelsey of Huntington and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held Sunday in the Masonic Temple. -k
