The Murder at Sand Creek On last Tuesday the preliminary trial of Joseph Rouger, the Italian saloon keeper who killed Robert Barnett on Sunday, Oct.10, in his saloon at Sand Creek, was held at Rockville before Esq. Noel. The warrant for the arrest of Rouger was made by the wife of the deceased. From the evidence of Rouger, the only living witness, it was ascertain that Barnett kicked open the door of the saloon and attempted to strike Rouger with a piece of scantling, and that the shooting was done in self defence. Rouger was therefore discharged and is now a free man. Barnett is suppose to have been drunk, and that he had a spite at Rouger, that he met his death while attempting to thrash Rouger.
