Mrs. Mary E. Barr died at her home on Howard Street on Saturday evening. She has been in failing health for a number of years but grew worse within the last week. Funeral services at the home on Tuesday morning were conducted by Rev. CB Stanforth. Burial at Maple Ridge. Mary E. Barr, daughter of John and Hannah Phillip(s) was born in Brown County Ohio Sept 22, 1842, and died at her home in Waveland Ind Dec 15, 1928. The time of her life is 86 years 2 months 28 days. When Mary Elizabeth was but a small child she moved with her parents from their Ohio home to Marion County Indiana. Some years later she moved to Waveland. She was one of Waveland's early pioneers. On December 21, 1861, Mary Elizabeth was united in marriage to JW Barr. To Mr. and Mrs. Barr were born six children, James, William, Charles and Mrs. Frank Brown of Waveland; Mrs. Charles Hickman of Hollister, Oklahoma and Mollie Barr, deceased. Mr. Barr passed to his reward on Dec 23, 1887 after 26 years of happy wedded life. On last Saturday evening Mrs. Barr also answered the call of the Death Angel and passed quietly to her reward in that land of spirits where death never comes. She was a quiet, unassuming woman and her life was an open book to all. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Waveland in young womanhood and kept the faith to the end of her life. The members of the family who survive are 5 children: James, William, Charles, Sarah and Ella, all present 4 grandchildren, Harry Barr, Mrs. Mary McGaughey, Edith Stanfield and Elvin Brown; 3 great grandchildren, Mildred McGaughey, Eioline Stanfield and Mary Elizabeth Barr. Those from a distance here for the funeral were Mrs. Charles Hickman of Hollister, OK; Mr. and Mrs. Delno Stanfield and daughter, of Annapolis, Ill and Mr. and Mrs. DA McGaughey and daughter, Mildred of Dana. - kbz
