: Waveland Independent, Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana, June 23, 1899

The community was shocked on Monday to learn of the death of Miss Mollie Barr at Indianapolis where she had gone to have an operation performed for goiter. Mary Barr was born in Waveland June 19, 1872 died June 19, 1899. she possessed a character which endeared her to all who knew her, and was one whose place in this world is not easily filled. She was a type of true Christian womanliness. She became a member of the ME Church at age 15 and was a conscientious member until her death. She was faithful to the Epworth League and Sunday School and took as active a part in all church work as her health would permit. She displayed a heroism in the last few months of her life which was beautiful. Feeling that there was a probability of her relief, one chance to regain health through a painful and critical operation, she bravely decided to take that chance, and fully realizing the peril of the situation she faced it with a courage rarely seen. She was fully prepared for what might come, yet putting her trust in the One who makes no mistakes she was fearless. She leaves a host of friends to cherish the memory of her life. In a letter written to her sister but a few hours before her death she speaks in the most affectionate terms of her friends. She was a loving daughter, faithful sister, true friend and above all a servant of the Most High. Death has no victory over such a life and the grave is robbed of all its terror to the one who can say as she did in the last letter she ever wrote, "I am trusting in Jesus and He is with me all the time." Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church on Wednesday conducted by Rev. Claude Travis. The sermon was preached by Rev. JF Crowder according to the wishes of the deceased. - kbz
