LINDEN – Edward O. "Eddie" Barton, 70, Linden, former janitor at the Linden and Kirkpatrick schools, died at 2:35 a.m. today in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He had been in poor health for the past eight years. He also had been employed as janitor in the Montgomery County Courthouse and Tipmont REMC. Mr. Barton was a member of the Church of Christ at Crawfordsville; OES 244 at Linden, where he was a 25-year member, and Linden Lodge 697, F&AM. Born Oct. 27, 1902, in Tippecanoe County, he was a son of James M. and Martha A. Vail Barton. He married Lulu May Hauser June 5, 1927, at Spencer. She survives. Other survivors include a son, William Woodrow Barton of Plainfield; a daughter, Mrs. Freda A. Layton of Linden, and a sister, Mrs. Harold Grenard of Linden, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Helms Funeral Home at Linden with Henry Smith and Gene Warman officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday.--waw
