John V. Beamer, 67, former U.S. representative from the 5th District and a graduate of Wabash College, died suddenly Tuesday while attending a presbytery meeting at the First Presbyterian Church in Anderson. He lived at Wabash, Ind. He was graduated from Wabash in 1918. While in school here, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and took part in many campus activities. Beamer served four terms in Congress from 1951 to 1959. He previously had served in the lower house of the State Legislature in 1949 and 1950. He was born Wabash County, the son of pioneer residents of the area. He was graduated from Roann High School before attending Wabash. He was married to Letlha Urschel, who was sitting at his side when he died. She said he had suffered two previous heart attacks. For a number of years Beamer was a manufacturer of baking powder and rock wool at Wabash. He served in the field artillery during World War I, and was a charter member of Thomas Stineman Post of the American Legion at Wabash. Beamer was a former member of the Wabash School Board. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Kiwanis Club, the Wabash Carnegie Library Board. and the board of trustees of Peabody Memorial Home at North Manchester. He was an elder of the Wabash Presbyterian Church. Survivors besides the widow are a son, a daughter and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Wabash.
