William Beck, son of Jeptha and Phoebe Beck was born May 24, 1842 near Shannondale, Ind. He died after a long illness at his home in Englewood, Crawfordsville, Ind April 24, 1914. He and Caroline Miller of Lebanon, Ind were married Sept 15, 1863 and were permitted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this happy event. To Mr. and Mrs. Beck were born three children, Mrs. Phoebe Bowman who resides in Englewood; Mrs. Clydie LaFollete who preceded her father to the better land June 5, 1898 and Charles R. Beck who resides on the homestead farm near Shannondale. There are five grandsons Glenn and Ray LaFollette, Burn, Loren and Willis Beck and two granddaughters Mrs. Jessie Lafalotte Beck and Kathlene Beck, surviving. Mr. Beck was not connected with any church or fraternal organization.  A highly respected citizen one whose word was as good as his bend in the community where he was looked upon as a Christian Gentleman.  Those who knew him best have lost a sincere friend and the locality a good neighbor. Elder Oliphant conducted the funeral services at the home of the deceased Sunday April 26th at 1:30 p.m. The burial took place at Shannondale. The pallbearers were Glenn and Roy LaFollette; Buren and Loren Beck, and Oscar Beesley, grandsons of Mr. Beck and Merle Harlan.  - kbz
