Services have been held for John Fred Beebe of Eugene, who died March 11 of pneumonia and Parkinson's disease. He was 74. Beebe was born July 17, 1927, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to Chester and Dorothy Taylor Beebe. He married Barbara Swift in Belmont, Mass., on April 4 1956. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Beebe worked at the University of Massachusetts in 1958, at Indiana University in 1959 and at the University of Chicago in 1966. He came to the University of Oregon in 1968 and worked 25 years as a Slavic linguist in the Russian department. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan Beebe Watkins of Brookline, Mass.; three sons, John of Oregon City, William of Springfield and Peter of Eugene; a brother, James of Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren. Burial was at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
