J. Estel Bell, 90, a resident of Williamsburg Health Care died Tuseday in Culver Union Hospital. Mr. Bell had worked for Goodman's and Dellekamp's Department store for 30 years. He owned and operated Bell's Clothing Store for years. Mr. Bell served as Montgomery county clerk six years. He was the executive director of Crawfordsville Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce from 1975-1983 and chairman of the Board of Directors for the organization. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the army 4th infantry. He received a Purple Heart. Mr. Bell was a former county chairman for the Republican Party. He was a member of Crawfordsville Masonic Lodge 50 F&M Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1431. Disable American Veterans and First United Methodist Church of Crawfordsville. He was also the longest and oldest member of the Crawfordsville Country club. He graduated from CHS in 1924. He was born in New Richmond Jan 13, 1906 to James Arthur and Cora Dell Bell. He married Marjorie Lee Chadwick Dec 24, 1933 in Montgomery County. She died Jan 28, 1997. Surviving are a son, J. Frank of MIllersburg, Ohio a daughter, John Remley of Crawfordsville, a sister Margie Lusby of Crawfordsville 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled 11 a.m. Friday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave with Rev. Lynn Denison officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Mausoleum. The American Legion and VFW will conduct graveside military rites. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Wabash College Athletic Department or First Methodist Church of Crawfordsville. - kbz
