On Tuesday evening, February 5, 1901, at her home, 405 West Pike Street, Crawfordsville, Indiana, occurred the death of Mrs. James H. Benefiel, relict of the late James Harvey Benefiel who preceded her April 10, 1887. Her maiden name was Jane McConnell. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, January 30, 1820, and removed with her parents, Ezekiel and Margaret McConnell, to Montgomery County, Indiana, in 1826, thus becoming one of the earliest pioneers.

On January 4, 1842, she was married to James Harvey Benefiel, to whom were born three children, one son and two daughters. One daughter survives her, father, mother, brother and sister being taken.

She united with the Presbyterian Church at the age of 16, under the ministration of Rev. James Thomson, and has been a zealous member all her life. She was of tender sympathies, fervent piety, and noble generosity, limited only by her means. Her illness was endured with patience and fortitude, repeating, as she would take a cup of water in her own hands to her lips, these words: “Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling,” and still clinging, so sweetly fell asleep in Jesus. Her peaceful, happy face was like a benediction to her only child and I would that she might have lingered longer with me, but she has been taken: she has joined husband and children and gone before, and together they await the coming of their remaining child to form an unbroken family circle. - thanks muches to "S"
