The Marionville (Missouri) Buzz-Saw has the following relating to the death of a former citizen of Crawfordsville: Dr. S.W. Bennage, an old and respected citizen of this place died at his residence Tuesday, May 10, 1887 at 12:30 o'clock. Deceased was 65 years of age; was born in Pennsylvania in the year 1822. His parents moved to Mogadore, Summit County, Ohio when he was quite young, at which place he was reared up under religious instructions. In the year 1844, he married Miss Mary A. Saxe. After his marriage he began the study of medicine and in 1848, he graduated with a class of 16 under Dr. Borge at Akron, Ohio. He then removed to Crawfordsville, Indiana where he was engaged in practice of medicine until 1866, when he came to Southwest Missour, locating for a short time in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence County. From Mt. Vernon he came to Marionville, where he resided until his death. Dr. Bennage was an estimable citizen and by patient industry had acqauired considerable wealth. He also belonged to the Masonic order. He leaves a wife and 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters who were all present at his death except on daughter, Mrs. Callie Robertson who is living in California. He quietly passed away satisfied of reaching a happier and brighter home beyond death. In the death of Mr. Bennage the community loses a most valuable citizen and the family a devoted husband and loving father. The family has the sympathy of the entire community. - transcribed by kbz
