Waynetown, Nov 19 - William H. Biddle, 85, a veteran of the Civil War died at his home here Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock after an illness of 3 weeks. Death was due to infirmities of old age. Mr. Biddle was born in Fleming, the son of Stephen P. and Elizabeth Shockley Biddle. At the age of 18, Mr. Biddle enlisted in Co. H, 16th Kentucky Infantry in October 1861, and served throughout the entire war. He took part in many of the major conflicts of the war between the states, among them the battles of Resaka, Franklin and Nashville. He was with General Sherman at Raleigh, NC when Lee surrendered to Grant at the end of the war. The aged man delighted in telling of his many experiences while serving in the Union Army. The deceased returned to his home after the war and was united in marriage to Miss Joan Rusk on December 12, 1869. There were no children born to this union and Mrs. Biddle died May 18, 1927. Mr. Biddle was a membr of the Baptist Church at Waynetown and Waynetown Masonic Lodge. The survivors are: a brother, Jas M. Biddle of Maroa, Ill; a half brother, Foley Biddle, who lives in California and a half sister, Delvine (Ping) of Los Angeles. The funeral services for the aged veteran will be held at his home in Waynetown on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. WH Breach of Danville, Ill. He will be assisted by Rev. Mr. Brown, pastor of the local Baptist Church of which the deeased wa a member. The Masonic service will be given by Judge Jere West of Crawfordsville.
