NEW RICHMOND - Levert E. Binns, 78, a director of the New Richmond Savings & Loan Association since 1923, was fatally stricken at 11:15 a.m. Monday while in his office. He had been in failing health since January of 1971. Mr. Binns had served as secretary of the firm since 1929. He also was postmaster of New Richmond in 1921-33. Born here May 30, 1893 to Mose and Emma Dazey Binns, he was a resident all his life of this community. He was a member 65 years of Center Christian Church, a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 604 here and a member of Murat Temple of the Shrine at Indianapolis, Tippecanoe Council of Knights Templar and of the Federal Postal Employes Association. Mr. Binns served as treasurer 40 years of the New Richmond Cemetery Association. In 1966 he was honored by Gov. Edward T. Breathitt of Kentucky with a commission as a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Binns was married at Lafayette on July 28, 1945 to Helen Oppy, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Daniel R. Binns of Speedway, and a brother, Arlie Binns of Lafayette. Friends may call at the residence at the west edge of New Richmond at 4-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-9 p.m. Wednesday. Helms Funeral Home at Linden is in charge of services set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Center Church, with Rev. Ralph Watson officiating. Burial will be in New Richmond Cemetery.
