After an illness lasting through several months death brought relief Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bishop at her home on west Pike street. Extreme old age was the chief cause of Mrs. Bishop's demise. Mary Elizabeth Galey was the daughter of James and America Galey and was born near Brown's Valley March 20, 1830 and moved to this city with her parents when at the age of ten years. In 1852 she was married to John Bishop and to them were born four sons, James M., George W., Harry C., and Edward Stanton Bishop, all of whom survive her. Since 1845 Mrs. Bishop has been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church, joining it when it was a small frame structure. She was an earnest worker in the cause of temperance and was identified with all of the earlier temperance societies. Mrs. Bishop's funeral occurred on Monday at the residence of her son, James Bishop, on west Main street at two o'clock and the interment was at Oak Hill. The funeral services was in charge of Rev.
