Cletis L. Blackford, 74, of 507 Indiana 32 west, who retired after operating a farm in the Wingate community for more than 46 years, died suddenly Tuesday at his home. He was a member and former deacon of the Wingate Christian Church and Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He attended Wallace High School. Born Oct. 15, 1902 in Illinois, he was a son of Thomas J. and Sibbie Hayden Blackford. He was married to Orpha Etter of Alamo on Feb. 1, 1922. She survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Delores) Simms of Lafayette; a brother, Emerson of Waynetown; a sister, Mrs. Virgie Keller of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren; and three great-grand-children. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Homer Hunsinger officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday. – jlr

Wingate – Cletis Blackford, 74, a retired farmer of 507 Ind 32 W, Crawfordsville died unexpectedly at 11 a.m. Tuesday in his home, apparently of a heart attack. Mr. Blackford and his wife, the former Orpha Etter were observing their 55th wedding anniversary when he was stricken. They were married Feb 1, 1922. He had farmed in the Wingate community to Crawfordsville three years ago.  He was a member of Wingate Christian Church and Montgomery Farm Bureau.  Surviving with the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Delores) Simms of Lafayette; one brother, Emerson Blackford of Waynetown; and a sister, Mrs. Virgie Keller of Crawfordsville. =  kbz
