Waynetown - Walter M. (sic - N in headlines) Blackford, 87, of Waynetown died at 2:10 a.m. Thursday at Lafayette where he had been a patient 11 weeks. Mr. Blackford was last employed by the Agricultural Stablization Conservation Service. When he retired from farming in 1951, he moved to Waynetown. He was employed most of his adult life as a farmer. He also drove a school bus for 8 years and worked in real estate for a time. He was one of the oldest members of the Waynetown Baptist Church and was active in church functions until his health began failing. Mr. Blackford attended school in Waynetown. He was a charter member of the Wayne Farm Bureau. He also held membership in the Knights of Pythias, Modern Woodmen and Masonic lodges in Waynetown. Born April 14, 1879 in Wayne Township, he was a son of James and Joan Underwood Blackford. He was married Nov 12, 1902 to Maude A. Grubbs. They were married at the home of the bride east of Elmdale. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Shute of Waynetown and Mrs. Mary James of Pittsburg; a grandson, Phillip James of Minneapolis; a granddaughter, Miss Joanne James of San Francisco; two great grandsons; two step-grandsons; six step-great grandchildren, three nieces and a sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny, Mark and Gaylen and a sister, Mrs. Clyde Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Servies Funeral Home here wtih Rev. Myron Hinton, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery here. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday. - kbz
