John W. Blankenship, retired farmer, Boston Store, was born in Lincoln county, Kentucky, September 7, 1804, and came to this county in 1834 and stopped near Crawfordsville awhile, then moved on to where he now lives. He is the son of Noel and Amy Blankenship. His father was a democrat, a farmer, and died in Kentucky. The subject of this sketch lived at home with his mother till he was twenty-five years old. He has been married three times, the first time to Elizabeth HINDS, 1828, the second time to Elizabeth LOREW, the third time to Susan K. NICHOLSON. Mr. Blankenship has but one child, Amy, by his first wife. She is married to Henry UTTERBACK. Mr. Blankenship has held many township offices. Assessor six years, constable six years, and overseer of the poor, and has been administrator and guardian for many estates and children. Mr. and Mrs. Blankenship are both members of the Missionary Baptist church, the former having been a member for fifty-two years. He began life poor, and has been successful. He and his wife now enjoy the pleasures and happiness of a ripe old age. Mr. Blankenship voted first for Andrew Jackso, and last for Hancock. - kbz

John W. Blankenship, one of our oldest citizens, died at his residence near Boston Store on Monday evening of heart disease. He had not been ill and felt as well as usual up to within a few moments of his death. He was born in Lincoln County, KY Sept 7, 1804 and came to Crawfordsville in 1834, where he lived a short time then removing to his late residence where he died. He like his father before him, was a Democrat of the old school. His first vote was cast for Andrew Jackson and his last for Grover Cleveland. He was married the first time in 1828 to Elizabeth Hinds, second to Elizabeth Lorew, third time to surviving wife Susan K. Nicholson. He had only one child, Amy and she was married to Henry Utterback. He was of strong character, strict integrity and highly esteemed by a very large circle of friends and acquaintances. His funeral will not be presented until his daughter in Kansas can be heard from. - kbz

John Blankeship familiarly known as "Uncle John" died a this home near Elmdale MOnday last of heart disease at the extreme age of 90. He leaves a wife one daughter, and one adopted son to mourn his loss. He was born in Crab Orchard Kentucky in 1804 and emigrated to Montgomery County in 1824, settling on the land he owned at the time of his death. Mr. Blankenship was one of our county's most honored citizens a life long Democrat in politics and Baptist in relgion. The funeral took place Wednesday, Elder Bowles officiating. Interment at Oak Hill. - kbz

(Note: if you check the dates - born 1804; died 1888 he is not 90 -- and I stink at math - kz) This is perhaps not the same John Blankenship.

Another old pioneer gone to his long home. We learn that on Monday night, near 8 o'clock, John W. Blankenship, one of our oldest and best citizens, left for shores of time. He had been quite feeble for some time, yet was able to go around. On th enight mentioned, he partook of his meal as usual and died as above stated. He was a generous, kind man, living in peace with all. - kbz
