JAMES A. BLOMQUIST

Source: Obituary from a collection of Fauniel Hershbarger, a life-long Fountain County Indiana resident

An Indianapolis man died at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, Saturday night, a short time after suffering fatal injuries in a one-car crash. James A. Blomquist, 28, died at 8 p.m. Saturday of a crushed chest one hour and 25 minutes after his car crashed into a tree at a 90-degree curve on Indiana 55. Just a short distance west of the Liberty Chapel road. This is a terribly sharp and treacherous curve and has been the scene of many serious crashes. Blomquist was southbound on 55 when he came over a hillcrest and saw the right angle turn which has a posted 15 mile per hour speed, Indiana State Police said. When Blomquist attempted to halt his vehicle, the car skidded 150 feet across the road 25 feet in grass and struck a tree. The driver, who wasn't wearing the seat belt installed in the car, was thrown across the front seat into the dashboard or windshield, state police related. “Had the seat belts been in use, they would have prevented his death,” state troopers asserted in their report of the fatality. – jlr
