Richard M. Bible died of typhoid fever yesterday morning about 8 o’clock at his home in Coal Creek. The funeral occurs tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock at the Methodist Church in New Richmond under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias, of which order the deceased was an active and influential member. Mr. Bible was a native of Montgomery County and was the son of John and Mary Bible, of Coal Creek Township. He was born there about forty five years ago and there passed his life. He received a common school education and began life for himself. He was an indefatigable worker, cheerful, and untiring, and when he married Miss Frazier, of Fountain County, he found a true helpmate. He began to succeed from his very start in life because he threw his whole soul into whatever he undertook, and every business that ‘Jolly Dick Bible’ was concerned in, came out well. He soon became one of the leading citizens of the township and at the time of his death, no one was better known or more generally liked in the county. He had a magnificent farm, splendidly improved near New Richmond, and his hospitality there was proverbial. He leaves a wife and five girls in excellent circumstances. Mr. Bible was one of the leading Republicans of Coal Creek Township and was a popular and progressive citizen. His death is a great loss to the community and is sincerely regretted by all. – thanks so much to s for tying this and so many obits for this site
Note: A descendant (Mary C) noted that this says he was survived by five daughters. Instead he had 3 sons - Frederick, James and Arthur and two daughters, Pearl Utterback and Mayme Thomas
