Mrs. Laura Birdcell, 87, died at her home in Waynetown on Wednesday morning Nov 22 after suffering a stroke on the day before. She had been confined to her home for 10 months due to a broken hip. The daughter of James and Lydia Tracy Pierce, Mrs. Birdcell was born in Waynetown on June 29, 1863 and was married to John J. Birdcell in 1886.  He died several years ago. With the exception of a short period spent in Hillsboro, she had been a lifetime resident of Waynetown. She was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and order of Eastern Star. Survivors are one son, Fern J. Birdcell, Waynetown; a grandson, John J. Birdcell; two great grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Pierce also of Waynetown. Funeral services were held at the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Harvey S. Burns officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. – kbz
